Flute-Jewels
In diesem Werk werden sieben Edelsteine musikalisch beschrieben. Der erste Stein ist der rote Rubin, der eine belebende und dynamische Wirkung hat und Lebensfreude, innere Stärke und Selbstbewusstsein verkörpert.
Im 2. Satz folgt der grüne Smaragd: er steht für Schönheit und Harmonie, aber auch für neue Ideen und Geistesblitze.
Daraufhin offenbart der honiggelbe Bernstein seine Fröhlichkeit, Lebensfreude und innere Kraft.
Der 4. Satz thematisiert den blauen Lapislazuli, er drückt Ruhe, Gelassenheit und Vertrauen aus.
Anschließend offenbart der rosarote Rosenquarz seine Romantik, Sensibilität und Harmonie.
Der edle Diamant verdeutlicht Charakterstärke, Willenskraft und Schönheit.
Den Reigen schließt der bergklare Bergkristall im letzten Satz mit seiner Klarheit, Ruhe und Kraft.
In this work, seven jewels are described musically.
The first gem is the red ruby, which has an invigorating and vibrant effect, and embodies zest for life, inner strength and self-confidence.
In the second movement, the green emerald follows; it represents beauty and harmony, as well as new ideas and flashes of inspiration.
Next, in the third movement, the golden yellow amber reveals its cheerfulness, zest for life and inner strength.
The fourth movement relates to the blue lapis lazuli, suggesting calm, serenity and trust.
Afterwards, in the fifth movement, the pink rose quartz unveils its romance, sensitivity and harmony.
The precious diamond conveys strength of character, will power and beauty in the sixth movement.
Finally, the clear rock crystal completes the collection in the last movement with its clarity, calm and strength.

Die Ameisenarmee
Im Ameisennest, Die Ameisenkönigin, Die böse Spinne, Aufmarsch und Angriff, Der Hochzeitsflug der Königin, Finale: so lauten die sechs kurzen Sätze dieses Trios, das eine kleine Geschichte erzählt. In den drei ersten Sätzen werden die verschiedenen Akteure musikalisch vorgestellt, in den nächsten drei Sätzen wird das musikalische Material verarbeitet und wieder aufgegriffen, so dass die Geschichte musikalisch leicht nachzuvollziehen ist.

In the Ant Hill, the Ant Queen, the Wicked Spider, Marching Up and Attack, the Queen’s Wedding Flight, Finale: these are the 6 short movements of the trio which tells a little tale. In the first three movements the various actors are introduced musically, in the following three movements the musical material is developed and continued so that the story can easily be followed.

Der kleine Wichtel
In diesem Flötentrio treibt der kleine Wichtel sein Unwesen. Zu Beginn geht er im Wald spazieren, dann stolpert er und fällt hin. Wütend läuft er umher und macht seinem Unmut Luft. Im nächsten Teil ruht er sich aus und schläft ein. Nach dem Erwachen treibt er wieder Unfug und seine Späße sind in den drei Flötenstimmen zu erkennen.

The imp
In this flute trio the little imp is up to mischief. First he walks in the wood, then he trips and falls. He runs around enraged and airs his grievances. In the next part he relaxes and takes a nap. After waking up he monkeys about again and his drolleries are mirrored in the three flute voices. Degree of difficulty: easy.
Le petit lutin
Un petit lutin est le personnage principal dans ce trio pour flûtes. Il se promène dans la forêt, trébuche, tombe par terre, et alors, tout furieux, il court dans tous les sens et manifeste sa mauvaise humeur. Ensuite il se repose et finit par s'endormir. A son réveil il reprend ses cabrioles reconnaissables dans les trois parties de flûte.

Oh Happy Flutes
Dieses Werk für Flötenensemble und Cembalo (Klavier) ist wie ein Concerto Grosso aufgebaut; das Concertino besteht aus einem Piccolo Solo, Flöte Solo 1 – 4 und einer Altflöte Solo. Die Besetzung des Tutti ist folgende: Flöte 1 – 3, Altflöte und Bassflöte. Das Cembalo wird teilweise konzertant, solistisch oder im Tutti eingesetzt. Der Titel bezieht sich auf eine sehr bekannte Gospelmelodie, die in den drei Sätzen Gospel, Blues und Ragtime verarbeitet wird und als zyklisches Thema wiederkehrt.
The structure of this creation for flute ensemble and harpsichord (piano) is that of a concerto grosso; the concertino consists of a piccolo solo, flute solo 1-4 and alto flute solo. The instrumentation of the tutti is as follows: flute 1-3, alto flute and bass flute. The harpsichord partly comes in concertantely, soloistically or in the tutti. The title refers to a well known gospel melody, processed in the three movements gospel, blues and ragtime and recurs as a cyclic theme.
Cette œuvre pour ensemble de flûtes et clavecin (piano) repose sur la structure du Concerto Grosso ; le Concertino comporte un piccolo solo, les flûtes solo 1 – 4 et une flûte alto solo. My fPhone
Das „F“ im Titel steht natürlich für Flöte; außerdem stehen die vier Teile dieses Flötenquartetts in „F“. Im ersten Teil „My new fPhone“ kommt die Freude des neuen Besitzers über ein „fPhone“ klar zum Ausdruck: stolz führt er sein neues Handy vor. „SMS“ lautet der zweite Teil, in dem das Schreiben einer Kurznachricht mit einem prägnanten Motiv und schnellen Sechzehntelnoten dargestellt wird. Selbstverliebt macht der Besitzer im dritten Teil „Selfie“, eine ganze Reihe Fotos; er steigert sich nach und nach in einen „Selfierausch“, um das beste Foto von sich zu erlangen. Allmählich beruhigt er sich wieder und kommt zum Anfangstempo „Andante“ zurück. Im vierten Teil wird mit ganzem Einsatz getwittert und gezwitschert; witzig und gut gelaunt endet dieses Flötenquartett.

No need to say that the “F“ in the title stands for “flute”; and the 4 movements of this quartet for flutes are written in “F”, too. In the first part “My new fPhone” the new owner clearly shows his joy over an fPhone: he proudly parades his new mobile phone. The second part is called “SMS”. Here the writing of a short message is depicted through a concise motif and some quick semiquavers. In the third part “Selfie” our young narcissist takes a number of photos; he gradually moves into a selfie frenzy to get the best picture of himself. By and by he calms down and returns to the “andante” tempo of the beginning. In the fourth part he twitters and chirps with total dedication; the quartet ends on a witty and cheerful note.

La lettre « F » du titre suggère évidemment la première lettre du mot flûte ; en outre les quatre parties de ce quatuor sont écrits en « fa ». La première partie, « My new fPhone », décrit la joie d’un nouveau propriétaire d’un « fPhone » qui exhibe fièrement son portable. La deuxième partie, « SMS », illustre par le biais d'un motif percutant et des notes rapides en doubles croches la saisie d’un « texto ». Dans la troisième partie, « Selfie », surgit le côté narcissique du propriétaire. Il prend toute une série de photos de lui-même et finit par se retrouver dans une sorte d’enivrement pour obtenir enfin le meilleur autoportrait. Peu à peu il se calme et la musique revient au tempo initial, un « Andante ». Gazouiller et twitter, voilà les éléments essentiels de la quatrième partie qui conclut ce quatuor pour flûtes dans une ambiance de bonne humeur.

Dieses leichte Flötentrio beschreibt musikalisch den Aufenthalt auf einem Spielplatz. Die verschiedenen Teile tragen die Bezeichnungen: Die Schaukel, Die Rutsche, Die Wackelbrücke, Das Federtier, Die Seilbahn, Das Karussell.
Im letzten Teil "Das Karussell" treten musikalische Erinnerungen an die vorherigen Teile auf und an die schöne Zeit die man auf dem Spielplatz verbracht hat.

Off to the Playground!
This easy trio for flutes describes time spent at a playground. The different parts are called: At the playground, the swing, the slide, the wobbly bridge, the spring rocker, the zip line, the roundabout. In the last part, "the roundabout", the former parts are recalled as well as the nice time spent at the playground.

Ce trio pour flûtes décrit le séjour sur une aire de jeu. Les titres des différentes parties sont évocateurs: la balançoire, le toboggan, le pont suspendu, l'animal sur ressort, le funiculaire, le manège. Dans le dernier mouvement - "le manège"- des réminiscences musicales rappellent les beaux moments vécues sur l'aire de jeu.

Tick-Tack
Eine Uhr ist eigentlich nicht nur ein Messgerät, das den aktuellen Zeitpunkt anzeigt oder eine gewisse Zeitspanne misst. Eine Uhr kann auch Inspiration zu einem Musikstück sein und so steht das regelmäßige Ticken einer Uhr im Mittelpunkt dieses Werkes für 3 Flöten. Die Idee kam dem Komponisten, als er das Räderwerk eines alten mechanischen Uhrwerkes schlagen hörte. Dieses regelmäßige Schlagen wird durch eine durchgehende Achtelbewegung dargestellt, die in allen drei Flötenstimmen ununterbrochen weiterläuft.

A clock is not merely a measuring instrument, which indicates a precise moment in time or measures a certain lapse of time. A clock can also be an inspiration for a piece of music and thus the regular ticking of a clock is at the centre of this work for 3 flutes. The idea came to the composer while listening to the beat of an old clockwork mechanism. Its regular beat is represented by an insistent 8th note movement running on incessantly in all three flutes.
Degree of difficulty: easy.
Une horloge ne permet pas seulement de mesurer le temps, mais peut aussi devenir source d’inspiration pour une œuvre musicale. Ainsi le bruit de l’engrenage d’un vieux mouvement d’horlogerie a incité le compositeur à composer cette pièce. Le tic-tac régulier forme l’idée maîtresse de cette œuvre pour trois flûtes. Le battement de l’horloge est illustré par le défilement régulier des croches que les trois instruments se partagent.

In Anlehnung an eine berühmte Zeichentrickserie treiben in diesem Werk vier Flöten ihr Unwesen. Zu ihrer frechen Eleganz gesellt sich eine tollpatschige Naivität und ganz gleich, wer ihnen über den Weg läuft, - vor den vier rosaroten Nervenbündeln ist niemand wirklich sicher.
Erhältlich ist auch eine Version für Flötenensemble: Piccolo, Querflöten dreistimmig, Altflöte und Bassflöte.

Inspired by a famous cartoon, four flutes are up to all sorts of mischief. Not only are they elegantly cheeky but also clumsily naïve. And no matter who crosses their path, nobody is safe from the four pink jitterbugs.
A version for flute ensemble is also available: piccolo, flutes for three voices, alto flute and bass flute.

Dans cette œuvre inspirée par un célèbre dessin animé, quatre flûtes mènent une vie pleine de malices. A coté de leur coquine élégance se joint une naïveté pataude. Et gare à celui qui croise leur chemin: il ne pourra échapper à ces quatre paquets de nerfs.

The Song of "The Armed Man"
Über das Lied « L’homme armé », das man im 15. Jahrhundert an jeder Straßenecke hören konnte, sind in der Renaissance über 30 Messen und Motette geschrieben worden. Der Komponist bleibt mit dem « Song of the Armed Man » in der kontrapunktischen Tradition der Renaissance (Imitation, Kanon, Cantus firmus, Modus aus dem Mittelalter), gebraucht aber eine eigene musikalische Sprache, in der die Melodie des « L’homme armé » auf eine persönliche Art und Weise verarbeitet wird.
During the Renaissance more than 30 masses and motets were written about the song of “the Armed Man“ which, in the 15th century, could be heard on every street corner. With his song of the Armed Man, the composer remains in the contra punctual tradition of the Renaissance (imitation, canon, cantus firmus, and medieval modus), and yet he uses his own musical language in which the melody of “the Armed Man” is worked up in a personal way.
Tourbillons
“Tourbillons” pour deux flûtes a été composé de janvier à mars 2002 pour le festival de littérature “Liesen, Schreiwen a nach Kultur” qui se déroule en juin 2002 à Bascharage.
L’oeuvre est basée sur deux modes distincts: tandis que la première flûte
se voit attribuée le mode 2, la deuxième flûte est basée entièrement sur le mode 4.
L’oeuvre comporte un seul mouvement qui est précédé d’une introduction lente dans laquelle tout le matériel musical est présenté; ce matériel est développé par la suite en tenant compte d’une
grande économie de moyens thématiques.
“Tourbillons” for two flutes was composed between January and March 2002 for the literature - festival “Liesen, Schreiwen an nach Kultur” (Reading, Writing and more Culture), which took place in Bascharage in June 2002.
The work is based on two distinctive modes: whereas the first flute has been attributed mode 2, the second flute is entirely based on mode 4.
The work is composed of one single movement, preceded by a slow introduction in which all the musical material is presented; this marerial is then developed, respecting a great economy of thematic means.

Egressus
Das Werk « EGRESSUS » ist für sechsstimmigen Flötensatz komponiert : Piccolo, Flöte 1, Flöte 2, Flöte 3, Altflöte und Bassflöte. Es wurde von Herrn Carlo JANS in Auftrag gegeben, der ein Flötenensemble am Konservatorium von Luxemburg dirigiert. Herr JANS beklagte sich immer über die mangelnde Literatur für sein Ensemble und darüber, dass er öfters nur Transkriptionen von anderen Werken spielen konnte. Nach einem Gespräch zeigte sich der Komponist begeistert von der Idee ein Werk zu schreiben. Dieses wurde am 17.3.2003 beendet.
Die Komposition beinhaltet verschiedene Motive, die zu Beginn bruchstückhaft vorgestellt werden, dann zu Themen zusammengesetzt und dann imitatorisch und kontrapunktisch verarbeitet werden.
Der Titel « EGRESSUS » kommt aus dem Latein und bedeutet : « Austritt « .
Der Komponist befand sich in einer schwierigen künstlerischen Phase, die dank diesem Werk überwunden wurde.
